Palau is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean. The country contains approximately 340 islands. The most populous island is Koror. The capital Ngerulmud is located on the nearby island of Babeldaob, in Melekeok State.
Palau is famed for its clear waters and pristine coral reefs. In 2011, Palau created the world’s first shark sanctuary, banning commercial shark fishing within its waters. Palau is home to fewer than 20,000 people and also has close relations with the United States.
